Doha means "the big tree" in Arabic, and relates to a tree that stood at the centre of the old town.

Doha is preparing to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup which will be the first World Cup to be held entirely in indoor venues.

Doha is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with more expatriates than Qatari nationals living in the city.

Doha began as a small pearl-fishing village and is now one of the richest cities in the world.

Qatar was a British protectorate between 1913 and 1971, when the state gained its independence.

Qatar produces more than 800,000 barrels of oil every day and has the world’s third-largest natural gas field.
