The Rhône-Alpes

The word "Rhône" comes from Latin “Rhodanus”, which means “Great River”.

The four main urban areas of the Rhône-Alpes region are home to more than three million people.

The watershed of the Rhône covers an area twice the size of Switzerland.

According to French meteorologists, there are 24 distinct climates within the Rhône-Alpes region.

The 2003 Rhône flooding killed five people and caused $29,500,000 worth of damage.

Cave paintings in the Chauvet caves of the Ardèche are thought to be over 20,000 years old.
