What is now Mumbai was once seven islands joined together by a major engineering project from the mid-18th century.

In 2009, Mumbai was named an alpha world city placing it amongst the richest and most powerful cities in the world.

Mumbai is home to the tallest and largest number of skyscrapers in India.

Salsette Island is the fourth most densely populated island in the world, hosting the cities of Mumbai and Thane.

The name Bollywood is a combination of ‘Bombay’ and ‘Hollywood’, and refers to Mumbai’s film industry.

Mumbai has its own dialect which is a combination of South Asian languages and English.
