Bend, Oregon

Only ten miles south of Bend is the active Newberry Volcano that last erupted 1,300 years ago.

In 2005, Bend was the sixth fastest-growing metropolitan area in the United States.

In the first decade of the 21st century the population of the city of Bend grew by more than 47% from 52,000 people to 77,000.

Bend is one of only three cities in the continental United States to have an extinct volcano within city limits.

Newberry Volcano is one of the largest shield volcanoes in America covering a total area of 1,290km².

Bend was originally known as ‘Farewell Bend’, but ‘Farewell’ was dropped by the US Postmaster who felt the name was too long.
